Dear friends of art and music,

On the 28th of January, the we celebrated the opening of Brigitte Wiegmann’s exhibition and I am very happy about all the guests who found their way into the music studio!

The opening had its first highlight with the concert, in which three young musicians played Brahms’ Klaviertrio No. 1 Op. 8 with Yili Niu at the piano, Mu-Di Wu at the violin and Javier Huerta Gimeno at the cello. These three carried the audience with their enthusiasm and love for this music through the whole piece which was almost 45 minutes long!
In the further course Yili Niu played solo on the piano a Haydn sonata and Debussy’s Images. Here, too, she proved that, in addition to her outstanding technique, she has a fine sense for the very different epochs that these two composers represent: the Viennese Classicism and the Impressionism of the 20th century.
I am always delighted to be able to experience such outstanding talents already in their early stages, and this is also why the music studio has become an insider tip for music lovers in regard of it’s wide offer of concerts.

After a break in which one could regain strength with coffee, sparkling wine and cake, it went over to the program highlight of this vernissage:
Prof. Dr. Ute Büchter-Römer first gave a lecture, which was both understandable and very informative, on the works of Brigitte Wiegmann. As a musicologist, she is most able to establish the relationship between the pictures and the music and brought us to the realization of seeing music and listening to images!
After the lecture, Mrs. Wiegmann offered a guided tour through the exhibition, giving visitors the opportunity to get more information about the herself, her technique and her reception of the music in her works.

If you would like to see the exhibition, but did not find the time on the day of the opening, I can warmly recommend the next concert dates or you can visit us on Saturdays between 2 and 6 pm.

Dear friends of art and music,

I would like to invite you to the opening of the exhibition “Musicpaintings from the Baroque to the Present” from the artist Brigitte Wiegmann. The native Mönchengladbacher began her artistic career in the confrontation with art history (in particular the Bauhaus and classical modernism). The main focus of her work lies in the interaction between art and music. The key to her work is to be found less in the musical- than in the sound-compositional quality of her paintings. Many artists, such as Wassily Kandinsky and Paul Klee, have already dealt with this topic in their own time, and their findings have also influenced the artistic work of Brigitte Wiegmann.

This exhibition will once again have a special appeal while listening to all the concerts of the next months, which will accompany this exhibition. You can find the program as calendar on the main page.

“…Brigitte Wiegmann has found a compositional structure for her painting, which could be defined as a descriptive way of drawing. These descriptions are set in accurate, yet also freely formulated structures on paper or painted on canvas. She chooses the canon of her colours in a wholly reflected manner, which she sets in a dense juxtaposition to each other on her large-format colour paintings and still manages to pursue a ‘very laborious way of realization’ despite of the colour intensity. “This structure stands in the context of a conceptual system of order, which is always implied in her color-spaced works, despite of all the freedom, and in which she offers the colour itself a platform, on which the multitude of colour shades can unfold freely and in a sound-intensive manner. In her color-spaced paintings she has found an independent language and formulation which can be summarized as fugue- and canon images, but reaching the symphonie of sounds through the tones of the colours alone.”

Born in Guangzhou, China, in 1995, Yili Niu received her first piano lessons at the age of five. Soon, successes in various competitions were marked

2007: 1st place at the “XingXingHuoJu” competition;

2010: 3rd place at the “KAWAI” piano competition;

2011: 1st place at the International of Asia in Hong Kong

In 2011, she became a young student with Prof. Beatrice Berthold at the Hanover University of Music, Drama and Media and has lived in Germany ever since.

She is currently studying Bachelor of Music with Prof. Gesa Lücker at the College of Music and Dance, Cologne.
She received further musical impulses, among others by Jerome Rose (Victorian Rose), Victor Rosenbaum (Professor of the New England Conservatory and recognized pianist), Eduard Zilberkant (Prof. for piano at the University of Fairbanks, Alaska), and Jeffrey Swann (recognized American pianist and teacher).

Yili Niu regularly performs concerts all over China and now also in Germany. She has recently been a successful recipient of the Dorothy McKenzie Award at the IKIF Musikfestival in New York.
