Maria Dierker graduated in 2000 with a diploma. Subsequently, she was a master student of Professor Dr. Qi Yang. Since then she has been to Southeast Asia (People’s Republic of China, South Korea), Africa (including Gambia, Kenya, Senegal, Sudan), Europe (alongside Germany including Azerbaijan, Belgium, Denmark, France, Italy, Malta) with study visits, artist exchanges, projects and exhibitions , Netherlands, Poland, Romania). She also took part in renowned advanced training courses in Zen calligraphy and Far Eastern painting with internationally known masters. In addition to painting, installations shape her artistic work. Maria Dierker is also a “Sevengardens Dialoger” and thus a recognized representative of this official measure of the UN Decade “Education for Sustainable Development”. In addition, she works as a lecturer in adult education.

We are very pleased to introduce you to the Korean artist Hyeja Kim.

Hyeja Kim is internationally renowned for her large-scale oil on canvas works, which often depict urban scenes at night, characterised by the lights and their reflections. Her paintings combine real and imaginary elements, creating a unique visual experience that transports the viewer into a dreamlike world.

The art critic Ban Yijeong, who has analysed Kim’s works in detail, writes: “Hyeja Kim’s paintings are fascinatingly similar to the structure of Monet’s ‘Water Lilies’ in that they combine different time planes and spaces. Kim’s cities often do not exist in reality, but are a fusion of memory and imagination.” These subjective cityscapes reflect not only physical reality, but also the emotional and psychological layers associated with urban life.

The title of the exhibition “Trans_Reflection #3” is more than just a description. It alludes to the concept of ‘trans-reflection’, a term Ban Yijeong explains as follows: “This new word may mean combining multiple screens (trans) beyond the long-standing attributes of a photo or painting that reflects only one scene (reflection), but it can also mean going beyond the grammar of conventional painting that reflects/reproduces something.” Kim’s works thus go beyond mere depiction and open up new possibilities of perception and interpretation.

We are delighted to be able to show works by the artist Victor Shtivelberg again in our gallery with the new exhibition AugenBlicke, which last delighted the public in 2019 in the exhibition Watching and Listening.

At the same time, we would also like to take this opportunity to announce that Galerie Paqué will from now on permanently represent works by Victor Shtivelberg, kindly provided to us by Ninelle Shtivelberg!

The painter from the Ukraine (*1960 in Odessa) with Jewish roots studied at the Odessa Art School and has been working as a freelance painter since 1987. Elements of symbolism, surrealism and a reference to realism can be found in his works, but Victor Shtivelberg vehemently rejects any categorization of his art. What is certain is that the artist draws his imagery from the subconscious or his inner world, which he tries to depict as clearly as possible. The motifs of his art come from Jewish mysticism, which is interwoven with Christian and Zen Buddhist elements. Technically, the artist mainly uses oil painting, but his repertoire also includes gouaches, pastels, graphics and acrylic paintings. The focus is on the masterful handling of composition, form, color and material.

The title of this exhibition comes from the gallery owner and ex-wife of the artist, Ninelle Shtivelberg, who addresses the following words to the public:

“I thought about it; just as pearls or stones are strung together on a string to form a necklace, a beautiful piece of jewelry, our lives consist of a series of many “Augenblicke”, moments – snapshots. And here we have the good fortune that someone in this room has captured such moments. Victor Shtivelberg captures moments. And you can see that every moment, every instant is very important. Nothing happens by chance, nothing is really chaotic or meaningless. This exhibition is an invitation for you to stop and enjoy the moment. I am very grateful to be able to share these moments with you. Just as the pearls form a chain, moments form the chain of our lives. And so pictures of life form this exhibition.”

The exhibition will once again kick off with a concert, this time presented by pianist Nina Gurol, who is celebrating her solo debut in our gallery and music studio. The program includes works by Domenico Scarlatti, Robert Schumann, Leoš Janáček, Emilie Mayer and Franz Schubert. Further information and registration for the concert can be found here.

Victor Shtivelberg

Victor Shtivelberg was born in Odessa, Ukraine, in 1960. There he graduated from the Odessa Art School. Since 1987 he has participated in over 30 solo exhibitions and more than 60 group exhibitions in many countries. His paintings are exhibited in museums and can be found in numerous private collections worldwide. In 1991 he became a member of the International Art Association.

Although Victor Shtivelberg’s works are based on realism, it is the mysticism of his inner world that brings his paintings to life. They cast a unique spell over the viewer in a wonderful way. Symbols from different cultures are interwoven, speak their own language and tell stories that are neither realistic nor surrealistic. Over the years, Victor has developed a brilliant, mature and very individual color palette, which he uses with great sensitivity.

Dear friends of art,

It is a great pleasure for us to present you Ukrainian artist Alina Khrapchynska with her exhibition Світи – Worlds. A native of Kharkiv, she began her education in childhood at the Children’s Art School named after Ilya Yefimovich Repin (Russian/Ukrainian artist). Later she attended the Kharkiv State Art School (specializing in “Artist Designer”), followed by a master’s degree program at the Faculty of Art and Graphic Arts of the H.S. Skovoroda National Pedagogical University of Kharkiv (named after the Ukrainian artist, poet and philosopher).

In the tradition of the Kharkiv School of Art, Khrapchynska seeks the aesthetic paradigm in the (neo)baroque variability of the pictorial world, through which she creates new painterly impulses. This pictorial world is defined by the reflection of the microcosm in the macrocosm and vice versa, carried by an inner harmony that connects these worlds into a whole. Technically, her painting is based on the traditions of realism and modernism, while the motifs of her works stand out for a plastic sensitivity, painterly expression, decorativeness and genre diversity.

Alina Khrapchynska is a member of the Kharkiv organization of the National Union of Artists of Ukraine as well as a member of the Federal Union of Visual Artists (BBK Cologne).

The musical prelude will be provided by the two musicians Veronika Mushkina (guitar) and Franziska Jaschke (flute) with works by J. Ibert, C.P.E. Bach, A. Piazzolla, M. Ravel, B. Bartók, J.-M. Damase and C. Machado. More information and registration for the concert can be found here.

About the association:

• Democratic Movement: We support the inclusion of a free Ukraine in European alliances.
• High-achiever education: We award scholarships to talented students in Rohatyn and facilitate study trips to Germany to teach Western democratic values.
• Humanitarian aid: For more than 20 years we have been collecting relief supplies and donations to build up infrastructure in the health and education sectors. In particular, we provide food for orphans at the Rohatyn Lyceum.
• Aid for war victims: Our current priority is to alleviate the humanitarian catastrophe for children in Ukraine, who have been particularly hard hit by Russia’s war of aggression, which violates international law.

Dear friends of art,

we are delighted to introduce to you Markus Neumann.

The Belgian artist Markus Neumann completed his artistic training at the Royal Academy of Fine Arts in Brussels and has already presented his works in numerous group and solo exhibitions in Belgium, Luxembourg, France, the Netherlands and Germany.

Markus Neumann’s series of works can be visually divided into series based on the materials and media used, but at the same time the striving to fathom and visualize his own ethics and principles in this regard runs through Neumann’s entire oeuvre.

The theme of skin has long accompanied him in his art. In addition to the naked skin he drew in his nudes as a young art student, it is above all the symbolism of skin that preoccupies him. What is important to him is the vulnerability of skin and its structure. It can be touched and caressed, but also cut and injured. Neumann also transfers this to the materials he uses for his works. He tears and cuts, layers and paints them. Skin can be an expression of youthfulness, but at the same time it is also a testimony to one’s own life; it ages and can be scarred. The detailed examination of his own fleshly shell made clear to him the complexity of a body and life. He also translates this complexity into his works.

In his series “Peau-ésie”, a fusion of the terms skin and poetry, he works with words and poems, which he either writes on his watercolors or glues on the printed words. Here he references works by poet Paul Celan and articles from the Belgian newspaper “Le Soir.”

“Starkströmung,” for example, addresses the refugee debate and the rise of right-wing radicalism. It shows migrant children drowning in a dark chaos of brown and black shadows, and the unrest that seems to consist of fear, violence and uncertainty is almost palpable.

Neumann comes to Bonn for the first time in January. The Musikstudio & Galerie: Gabriele Paqué will show a selection from the various series of works.

Before that, we would like to invite you once again to a concert by a young musical talent. The pianist Georg Kjurdian also celebrates his debut at the Musikstudio today and will present us a program around Robert and Clara Schumann as well as Richard Wagner starting at 3:30 pm. You can find more information about the concert here.

The gallery will also be open on Sunday, Jan. 22, 2023 from 12:00 to 16:00. The artist will be present and private tours can be given upon request.

It is a great pleasure for us to be able to exhibit the Bonn artist Milena Kunz-Bijno again after a long time. We expect again a colorful insight into her spirituality and philosophical world of thought. But we prefer to let the artist speak for herself:

Carpet of memory – The years colorful dress

I am turning 80 and look back on a rich, colorful and full life with light and shadow. I have traveled to many countries in the East and West and spent a lot of time in India. There I found an answer to the many questions about the meaning of life.

My suitcase is full of memories and colorful clothes. Life for me is a patchwork of impressions that I want to express in my collages. There are countless memories, but now they come together to form a whole. With the greater distance of the many years, it is more and more possible for me to see the unity that is hidden behind the diversity of experiences.

I assign small texts of poets and spiritual masters from all cultures and religions of the world to my pictures, in order to give the viewer an impression of the inspiration that moved me during the creation of my pictures. Although everyday life is sometimes difficult, my legacy is the message that life is a tapestry though sometimes with harsh contrasts that seem difficult to us, but in retrospect it is a tapestry full of grace.

And I look back with great gratitude.

Milena Kunz-Bijno

Milena Kunz-Bijno’s oeuvre is an interplay of both non-objective art and naturalistic components. Especially in her mixed media works and collages she combines seemingly contradictory techniques and finds her own style.

Deeply connected with her own biography, she implements elements of different cultures and their spiritual views in her paintings and sculptures. Born in Italy, the artist came to Germany, her chosen home, at the age of 21, after marrying a German diplomat. The marriage not only paved the way for her to study art in Bonn and London, but also took her on journeys all around the world.

For her, the frequent changes of location were not always easy but incredibly enriching.  – She had the opportunity to get to know people and cultures, to build bridges. During that time she was able to sharpen her own view of the world and to broaden her horizons while getting to know her own spirituality. Kunz-Bijno travelled in “classical” Europe from Italy, to Germany and England, through France, to faraway South America and India. Especially her stay in India would have a deep influence on her work.Several series of works are dedicated solely to “her” India and how she perceived it.

She skillfully combines apparent opposites and unites them into a whole. Themes such as the contrast between “Eastern” and “Western”, light and dark accompany Milena Kunz-Bijno throughout her work. The theme of “light” draws like a red line through her pictures and the texts often attached to them. Her works want to show ways to the inside, want to be an expression of the eternal longing of man for light and God and spirituality. The question of where from and where to is reflected again and again.

Kunz-Bijno portrays herself as an artist who transcends boundaries – metaphorically by questioning opposites, faith and being, and physically by her permanent relocation and traveling.

Dao Droste

is a cosmopolitan, born in 1952 in a family with an artistic tradition in Vietnam and living in Germany. The ex-chemist (PhD), Taoist and versatile artist (painting, sculpture, installation and video art) opened her studio in Eppelheim near Heidelberg in 1987.
With her large-scale floor installation “Open-Mindedness” – a collection of 500 faces made of terracotta from 1999 – Dao Droste has made an international name for herself. In numerous exhibitions in historical settings such as churches, castles and fortresses, she inspires her audience with the diversity of her oeuvre, always combined with her intuition for the given architecture.
Man in harmony with nature and with himself – this is the ideal of the Taoist Dao Droste, the goal of existence and the great theme of her art. A deep human understanding, experience of nature and reflection on inner values thus find expression.

Her large projects “Open-Mindedness” (1999) and “Terra cantans” (2002), floor installations with 500 clay faces and 150 heads were shown in several places in Europe.

We cordially invite you to visit the interactive virtual exhibition “Studies” by Rafael Ramírez Máro!

Due to the ongoing pandemic, a real exhibition, which was originally planned with Mr. Ramírez Máro and Alejandro DeCinti, unfortunately cannot take place. In these times, however, we probably all think about a saying in particular: to make a virtue out of necessity. And so we came to the decision to let this exhibition – similar to the Beethoven exhibition in April last year – take place digitally in a smaller version.

As you may know, we have been representing Mr. Ramírez Máro as well as his father, with whom he forms the artist duo Antonio Máro, for quite some time. This time, however, we want to focus on his very own art, by taking particular look onto the studies that underlie the artist’s monumental works. Of course, some of the great works will also be on view, and you will find that the studies are an art form in their own right.

What makes the art of Rafael Ramírez Máro?  Dr. Helmut Orpel writes:

[…] Ramírez’s painting lives from deep sensations and their artistic representation. His works reveal his amazement at the limitless possibilities of art to transcend time and space and to penetrate into depths that remain hidden from the superficial gaze. The viewer is moved by the suggestive power of color and form. It is about the possibility of re-perceiving, of absorbing feelings across spaces and times. The painter directs the viewer’s attention to detail, to inconspicuous gestures that are expressed in a drama as well as in a musical composition or in the dance step of a flamenco dancer, which the artist captures with an expert eye. He stages key scenes that seem to reveal the meaning of existence.  […]

Dear friends of art and music,

On September 12, 2020, the vernissage of the artist Wilhelm Frosting took place and I am delighted that despite Corona and good weather yet so (in regards to the circumstances) many visitors found their way to us!

The opening speech was held this time by Johannes Paqué and the gallery assistant Aylin Maggiarosa, who has been working in the Musikstudio since April. Mr. Paqué referred more to the artist’s life, while Ms. Maggiarosa took an art historical approach and commented directly on the works. The impressionistic style of Frosting is unmistakable, which sometimes reminds of Monet, especially in the depiction of nature. At the center of his work is the idea of reproducing the beauty and eternity of nature by using the Impressionist painting style to approach ephemeral motifs, often in the form of flowers and other plants.

Wilhelm Frosting was also present that day with his wife Maike and he used this opportunity to give the audience a more personal impression of his world of thought. We thank Wilhelm Frosting, DongYang Xing and of course the great audience for this late summer highlight!

Dear friends of music and art,

We are particularly pleased to be able to introduce you to the painter Wilhelm Frosting in the music studio. In the course of his life, Frosting became known far beyond the borders of Germany for his impressionistic-looking paintings and not infrequently he was already referred to as the German Monet. With both oil and watercolour painting he has devoted himself completely to nature and describes it in his works as an ethereal harmonising blaze of colour. In the meantime, several illustrated books have been published about him, in which it says:

Again and again the painter is drawn to the remote, largely untouched polar countries, to the places of a nature that has not yet been lost, where an all-challenging confrontation is still possible. There he finds his own pictorial cosmos, his painterly diction. Against the changing fashions of our time, he searches for positive images to oppose the frozen life situations.
Under the high sky, among the trees and flowers he wants to paint, because he belongs to them. There he creates his often palm-sized leaves, which he later surrounds himself with in his studio at home, his mother pictures, which become his inspiration and stimulation, awaken memories of what he has seen and dreamed of…
