Alina Khrapchynska

[…] Alina Khrapchynska loves water, flowers and the mood, which she successfully captures in the colourful shades of cityscapes, and this is no coincidence: Alina Khrapchynska’s visual matrix reflects a potentially non-figurative motif, because the synthetic combination of ornament, decor and naturalness inherent in the author’s sketchbooks reflects the ambivalence of figurative and non-figurative in participatory painting.

The combination of figure and background in a genre, landscape and flower scene is unique: “Morning in Goa”, “Morning Coffee”, “Iraklitsa. Sunset”, the brilliantly executed, almost Whistlerian “Fog” (after the American painter James Abbott McNeil Whistler), all from 2022, also open up considerable potential for abstraction, which could be another facet of the Ukrainian artist’s work in the future.

Sometimes the artist’s works are characterised by “rhymed compositions”, in which the theme, the semantic motif, the architectural and cosmogonic symbols (explanation of the creation and development of the world) seem to change, but this is not a repetition or a fixed train of thought, but a search for a “second, different nature”, which is perceived not only with the natural eye, but also with the inner vision. This applies in particular to the depiction of the four elements – wind, flashes of sunlight, water, air – which convey motifs of sadness, loneliness, aloneness, the immutability of natural phenomena and the eternity of architectural forms, in which the human figure remains almost a permanent element.
